Fruit eaters, like the toucans, hornbills and pied imperial pigeons, flourish in the tropics. Many of them are identified by their large bills. The hornbills and toucan's bills are useful for reaching berries on thin tree branches. The parrot's beak is designed so the hook at the tip is used to pull at the pulp of the fruit. The jaws, near the base of the beak, crack open seeds.
